THE LARNED EAGLE-OPTIC, 3 February 1899 |
Obituary of MRS. MARY E. MIZE |
Death of Mrs. Mize Mrs. Mary E. Mize died at her home in this city at eight o’clock Tuesday evening, after an illness of only a few days. The deceased was the wife of Rev. J. H. Mize, of the Baptist church, and the mother of Mr. Geo. H. Mize, and was in the seventy-second year of her age. The funeral services will be held at the First Baptist church of Larned, tomorrow, Friday, afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Armstrong, of Hutchinson, conducting the obsequies and preaching the funeral sermon. One of the sad incidents of Mrs. Mize’s death was the absence of her son and his two daughters – her beloved grandchildren. When Mr. Mize left for St. Louis a few days before accompanied by his daughters, his mother was up and around, and a letter which he received from home after his arrival at St. Louis advised him that his mother was as well as usual, and that he need not curtail his visit on her account. A day or two afterwards Mrs. Mize was taken violently ill and died before word could be got to her son of her critical condition. When a message was finally got to the little party of loved ones, they hurried home only to find their dear old mother and grandmother had left them for a brighter and sweeter home. |
