KATE E. JOHNSON DEAD

    Kate E. Johnson passed away at the Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita, after an illness of possibly two weeks.

    The following obituary has been handed us: Kate E. Watson was born in Somonauk, DeKalb Co, Ill., March 3rd, 1860. She came to Kansas in May 1872 with her parents, who settled on a homestead southeast of Mt Hope. She was married March 12, 1877 to Henry Johnson and moved to a new home one mile east of Andale where she resided thirty-one years. In the spring of 1908 they moved to a new home fives miles northeast of Mt Hope, where her husband died the following November.

    In the fall of 1912 she moved to Mt Hope, where she resided until her death. To this union was born six children-two girls, Maud E. and Claudia M., who died at an early age; and four boys-Charles N., Fred M., Sydney R. and Herman E., all of Mt Hope.

    She was converted in 1887, and united with the Christian Church at Andale, and later at Mt Hope, where she remained a faithful member to the end of life's pilgrimage.

    She has been in failing health for the past six years and died February 24th, 1914, at the age of 53 years, 11 months and 21 days. She is survived by her four sons, four grand children, her mother, Mary E. Watson, of Mt Hope, two brothers, C. S. Watson, of Pond Creek, Oklahoma, R. D. Watson, of Mt Hope, and one sister, Ella M. Tihen, of Andale.

    The funeral service was held at the Christian church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by J. F. Hay, pastor, and interment made in Mt Hope cemetery.

    The Clarion joins with the many friends of the bereaved family in extending condolence in this their hour of sorrow.
