Autopsy Performed

On Victim in Fight

An autopsy performed on the body of a Wichitan injured in a fight Sept. 15 showed that cause of death was apparently a "congenital blood vascular ailment," according to County Coroner Dr. Dean L. Bratt.

Dr. Bratt said the "ailment" was of the type that is present at birth.

Harvey L. Salisbury, 26, of 2015 University, was injured in a fight with his brother-in-law. He was hospitalized after the fight until his death.

Dr. Bratt said the "tentative" ruling on cause of death was "by natural causes." He said, however, that the possibility of the congenital condition being aggravated by the fight is not ruled out. Further laboratory investigation would be necessary before final ruling could be given.

According to Police Detective Charles Prowse, Salisbury was involved in a fight with Robert J. Hyde, 31, of 2241 S. Mosley.

Hyde told police that Salisbury had come to the home to talk with his estranged wife. When he was asked to leave, he became belligerent, Hyde said. A fight ensued and Hyde reportedly shoved Salisbury out of the house, off a porch and into the yard.

Police patrolmen Harry Yokum and Wayne Cook were sent to the home after the fight and found Salisbury unconscious. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital where he received emergency treatment and later was transferred to County Hospital

No action is being taken on the case pending the Coroner’s final ruling.
