Francis J. Wessel, 81, Oakley, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at Logan County Manor, Oakley.

He was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Angelus to Joseph and Maime (Mindrup) Wessel.
He married Elizabeth Vahling on May 11, 1948, in New Almelo. He was a farmer.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Angelus.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Donald Wessel, Michael Wessel, and Patrick Wessel, six daughters, Carol Raney, Rose Wessel and Barbara Wessel, Mary Zerr, Dot Graham, and Laura Wessel, five brothers, Tom Wessel and Dave Wessel, Bob Wessel, Leroy Wessel, and Charlie Wessel, three sisters, Rita Wessel, Mary Ann Seymour, and Sister Bernadine Wessel, 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
His parents, a daughter, Geraldine Wessel, two brothers, a sister and two grandchildren, preceded him in death.
Burial was in the St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Angelus, Kansas, Sheridan County.
