Mary Agnes ASCHENBRENNER
8/16/1912 — 9/22/2010

Mary Agnes Aschenbrenner was born in Ellis, Kansas on August 16, 1912, to John and Clara (Schuster) Reitmayer. She passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at the age of 98.

As a young girl Mary attended the St. MaryÕs Catholic School in Ellis.

On June 28, 1930, she married Anthony Aschenbrenner in St. MaryÕs Catholic Church in Ellis, KS. Mary and Anthony lived at Cedar Bluff for the next forty-two years where they farmed and raised their children. They later moved to Ogallah until retiring in WaKeeney in 1981. Grandchildren brought joy to her life. Whenever she spent time with or took care of her grandchildren joy illuminated her face.

Mary was active with Christ the King Altar Society, taking communion to the sick, being a Eucharistic Minister, and leading rosaries before funerals. She also was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and Christ the King Catholic Church. She prayed the rosary every weekday at mass and was on the prayer chain at church.

Hobbies included dancing, pinochle club, playing bingo and enjoying a quiet walk. She also was a master at needlework and making quilts.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jane Cunningham; two sons, Robert Aschenbrenner and wife Rosetta and LeRoy Aschenbrenner and wife Lois; daughter-in-law, Carol Aschenbrenner; two brothers, William Reitmayer and Clem Reitmayer and wife Katherine; two sisters, Ann Rohn and Minnie; twenty grandchildren, twenty nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Anthony; a daughter, Charlotte Meiar; two sons, Jim Aschenbrenner and George Aschenbrenner; two brothers, Carl and Joe Reitmayer; two sisters, Betty Mehler and Regina Augustine; three infant grandchildren and two son-in-laws, Alfred Meiar and Sam Cunningham.

Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, September 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church with Father Donald F. Pfannenstiel officiating. Interment will follow at the Christ the King Catholic Cemetery.
