OBITUARY of George Robert R. MicheIlich

G. Robert "Bob" Michellich, 72, died July 15,2005, at his home in WaKeeney. He was born in Wakeeney, December 17, 1932, in the living quarters of a service station operated by his parents, George and Mary M. (Olsen) Michellich. He is survived by his wife, of 51 years, Verna Mae (Weigel) Michellich, and six children, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Son Steven Michellich and wife, Julie Musseman, of Hawaii, daughter, Rebecca "Becky" and husband, Kerry Schneider, of Lawrence, granddaughter, Jennifer; son, Mark and wife, Kay Michellich, ofWaKeeney, and grandchildren, Amy, Jessica, Brandon and Sara, and great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Trinity; daughter, Theresa "Terry" and husband, Mitch Perry, of Loveland, Colorado, grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher; daughter, Linda and husband, Craig Crossland, ofWaKeeney, grandchildren Kyle, Casey, and Cody; daughter, Michelle "Shelly" and husband, Kevin Gabel, ofNess City, grandchildren Austin, Taylor and Madison. A brother, Mickey, and wife, Maureena, of Seattle, Wash., and a sister, Jean Wallace ofWichita, also survive him.

Bob graduated from Trego Community High School and Fort Hays Kansas State College. He was a member ofKnights of Columbus, American Legion, Jaycees and Professional Insurance Agents. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Armyand served two years in Alabama and Georgia. While in the service he participated in contests of the U.S. Army Rifle team where he received numerous awards for his excellent marksmanship. Hobbies included Ham radio, photography and marksmanship. His joys were pheasant hunting with the same group offriends for over 30 years. He also liked to travel with his wife and family and together they sometimes pulled a rented U-Haul trailer full of camping gear and visited over 40 states and 20 countries. He especially liked a drive in the country to look at the growing crops and cattle on a nice evening and time spent hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He also played an occasional game of bridge. In recent years Bob liked to drive the by-ways across the country just to look at the landscape, visit Indian reservations, U.S. national parks and recreation areas and visit with local people all along the way.

Bob and Verna owned and operated Michellich Insurance Agency for over 40 years. Visitation time will be 4 to 7 p.m. followed by a wake service on Monday, July 18,2005, at the Schrnitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 19,2005, in Christ the King Catholic Church, W aKeeney .Interment will be in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney . The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army or to the church cemetery and may be left in care of the funeral home.
