Date: Tuesday, May 25, 1999 10:17 PM

How may I find out what county a KS town is in, so that I can post the query appropriately? Thanks.

From: ? please contact tcward@columbus-ks.com if you submitted this information
Date: Tuesday, June 22, 1999 09:06 PM

Hi! I just had to do that myself. Here is how: You go to the main branch of your library, to the genealogy section and ask to see a map for the time and place. It will often be in the large atlas.

Some county lines changed over time so be sure to let the clerk know what year your ancestor was in Kansas. The atlas will have a listing of the cities alphabetically with the maps coordinates to the right, usually a letter and a number. Find the letter and the number on the side of the map and the top then go down to where imaginary lines drawn from each of them would intersect and you will find the town.

In my case I had to ask specifically for a map that showed even the littlest towns, so it was a big atlas.

My mother was born Mary Irene WESTON, twin of Harry Ivan WESTON, July 31, 1909. Left in Wichita Children's Home, Sept. 1911 by mother, Gertrude Thomas (maiden name?) and adopted the same month. Their natural father, John WESTON, "tracked them down", but papers had already been finalized. He asked that photos be sent to him, but they were returned unopened after abt. 1916. Gertrude died abt. 1912.

Any unidentified boy-girl twin photos around? Any connections to your WESTON'S?

I'm looking for information on a John Reppert (my great grandfather)who, according to family lore, was killed in knife fight/riot/general hoo-ha in Coffeyville, Kansas in 1910. Some very sketchy information indicates that the date may be a bit later, but not any later than 1920. J.R. was a slippery character who, among other things, worked for the railroad, scouted for the cavalry, and had five wives (serially or concurrently - we're still not quite sure which). He originally came from Pennsylvania and had three children: John, Allen (aka Alan), and Hazel. If you have any info., please let me know. Thanks.

Topic: Clarence Edwards
From: Christine Moore Smith csmith@in-motion.net
Date: Monday, May 03, 1999 07:33 PM

I am looking for information concerning the death of Clarence Edwards somewhere in Kansas in approximately the first 20 years of this century. He was born in Delaware County, IN, the son of David Henry Edwards and Mary Elizabeth Scott. He was the brother of Millicent (Millie) Bessie Edwards Smith and Cloa Edwards Long. He married in Delaware County IN September 5, 1903, Lucy A.M. Barnard, and she was his second wife, I believe. He had two sons, one of whom was named Clarence. Evidently both Clarence and Lucy died of a fever, leaving Clarence and the other son orphans. Clarence was brought back to Indiana to live with his aunt, Cloa Edwards Long and her husband Arthur in Muncie, Delaware County, IN. No one seems to know what happened to the other son, or even remember his name. Any help appreciated.
