I am searching for information about William SNELL and Laura HUFF SNELL. They are my great grandparents. I was always told they came to Kansas from Ohio, traveled in a covered wagon and lived in a sod house while in Kansas. They had a daughter while living in Kansas, Ethel Grace SNELL and she was born 13th June 1885. She later married Benjamin Leggett who also was born in Kansas 27th February 1884. I don't think the SNELLs lived very long in Kansas, I believe they next moved to Missouri and eventually ended up in Iowa where William became a coal miner at Hiteman, Iowa. Ethel and Benjamin also lived in Iowa. If someone can direct me on how to best find information on their stay in Kansas I would greatly appreciate the help. Topic: Solaine?Salina?
From: Susan Clark graphchem@aol.com

My husband's great-grandmother's death certificate listed her place of birth as Solaine, KS. Marietta R. Ferguson was born in 1864. Her parents were James K. Ferguson and Elizabeth Marshall Ferguson. Because I can't find Solaine as a town, I thought perhaps it should have been Salina. I don't find the surname listed in Salina records, but have just begun to work on this. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a letter from my great grandmother stating that the family bible was destroyed in the flood of the Caw[sic?] River at Armadale, Kansas in the year 1903. I have not been able to find the site. I believe the Kansas River is called the KAW.

If anyone knows this location I would appreciate your help.

Thank you,
Pam

It's probably Armourdale in Wyandotte County. It's now a part of Kansas City. So named after the Armour meat processing plant located near the stockyards.

I would guess south east of the jct. of I-70 and Hwy 169 - there's still an Armourdale Parkway there. Check out www.mapquest.com if you want to see where the Parkway is.
