According to a record I have found, my grandfather, John Thomas Lansdon, was born in Wafhiter, KS in 1875. The name "Wafhiter" is underscored in the document which might mean that the source was not certain of the spelling. Any help in locating the site would be much appreciated.

Topic: Jarvis/Hopkins
From: Linda Masson brentandlinda@cs.com
Date: Saturday, March 18, 2000 01:32 AM

I am beginning a search for any info on John N. Jarvis married to Martha Z. Hopkins. According to their daughter Althea Winifred Jarvis's soc.sec. application, they were living in Bosdale, KS at time of her birth 5/11/1891. I have not been able to locate Bosdale as a town. which county? thanks for any help. Linda Update 3/22/00. via Ancestry.com I located Martha Zamora Hopkins b.1-8-1861, Albany, Clinton Co, KY, married to John Nicholas Jarvis, no other info given about him. One of Martha's siblings, Newton Franklin Hopkins was noted to have died in ROSEDALE,KS, so perhaps Bosdale is actually Rosedale, and Althea mis-remembered it.

Kansas Post Offices by Robert Baughman does not list a Bosdale, but there is was Bosland listed in Ellsworth County 1871-1873. Perhaps it's a township name? What other sources have you tried?

I do not know whether he came with her or not. His occupation was Interior decorating & Construction work. If anyone has any information on him I would really appreciate it. My husband's great-great-grandfather, Curtis Markham died Sept. 11, 1908 in the Western Branch National Home For Disabled Volunteer Solders, National Military Home, Kansas.

He served in the Civil War out of Indiana. In 1907 he resided in Missouri, shortly thereafter he went to live at this hospital, where he died.

I would like to know where the NHDVS was located and if it would be possible to get a copy of the death record. Thanks.

The 1895 Atlas at http://www.livgenmi.com/atksn.htm list a National Military Home in Leavenworth County. Perhaps this is not the only one located in KS but at least you may have a starting place.

Have you checked into what is known now as the domicalary at the VA in Leavenworth? At one time it was known as the old Soldiers Home. And Has western Branch tied into it some how. You might contact Grant Walkup at (913) 682-2000. He is the public infromation officer. You might also check with the local DAV or VFW they may be able to help you.
