From: Kay Martin sunimaze@att.net

Could someone tell me the length of time that a person or family had to stay on their homestead land to "prove up" on it? What genealogical information might I get from the application papers? How do I go about obtaining a copy of those? Thanks!

Topic: Barnard/Guyer photo
From: Tom Thompson bamyman@actworld.net
Date: Wednesday, January 24, 2001 11:18 AM

I have a photo of a rock house with an elderly gentleman and two ladies in the yard. The writing on the back mentions "Aunt Libbie and Uncle Luman Barnards home in the country in Kansas City, Kansas. Representative U.S. Guyer lives there now, but Uncle Luman built the house and had 40 acres of ground. U.S. Guyer bought it after Uncle Luman died." This photo looks to be around the turn of the century. I would like to get this photo into the family that it belongs to.

From: Lisa Peters maxsmama98@earthlink.net
Date: Saturday, January 20, 2001 08:25 AM

I am searching for information on an ancestor named Ruth Irene Tedrow. She and her family lived in Kansas in the late 1800's/early 1900's and they owned a fair amount of land. Ruth's parents were James Edward Tedrow and Alice Burwell. Ruth's children were born up until the mid 1920's, so I'm guessing she was born between 1890 and 1900. If anyone has any information, please e-mail me at maxsmama98@earthlink.net. Thanks!

Topic: Robert Henry Newton
From: Judy Ryden jryden@roguecc.edu
Date: Tuesday, January 16, 2001 10:52 PM

Robert Henry Newton b. abt 1818 married Martha Colton Roe (possibly an Indian girl in Robertson Co. Tennessee). They had a child, Periander, b. June 11, 1842 in Robertson Co. TN. Robert Newton moved his family to Logan County, Ky. in the winter of 1844 where Theodore was born in 1845, Eliza in 1847 and Sarah in 1849. The family moved again to Holt County, Mo., in the winter of 1850 where Charles was born in 1854. After farming one year in Holt County, Robert took the management of the Government Mission Farm at Highland, Kansas, one year (the Indian School). He next farmed in De Kalb County, Mo., and then moved to Buchanan County and remained there until he came to Kansas in 1855 where Theodosia was born in 1857, Albert M. in 1859, M.L. in 1861, R. in 1863 and Thomas in 1866.

If anyone has anything to add to these facts, please e-mail me. Also, can someone tell me where I might find info about the Government Mission Farm at Highland, KS?
