Hi

Have military record that indicates James Mark (Marcus) POTTS, a Civil War vet, died at the National Military Home in Kansas on 18 Sep 1916. Record does not provide community/county info as to where the home was located. Would appreciate any location info and any background on home that is readily available or ideas to where I might find it.

Thanks
jollyg

The Kansas State Historical Society has microfilms of this census available for interlibrary loan. In fact all of the Territorial (1855-1859) and State (1865, 1875, 1885, 1895, 1905, 1915 and 1925) censuses are available for interlibrary loan. The 1865 and 1875 censuses have all person indexes also available on microfilm.

Topic: Census Index look up
From: Virginia Covalt vcovalt@juno.com
Date: Wednesday, November 07, 2001 11:51 PM

Hello,
If anyone has access to a 1920 Kansas Census index, could you please do a look up for me? I'm trying to find:
1. Reeves, Joseph Arthur and wife Anna, probably in Harvey County.

2. Covalt, Stillwell, probably in Marion Co.

I tried to find Reeves in the Census, Newton twp, Harvey Co. but the microfilm was so poorly photographed I could not read about 20% of the names. They were that blurry.

Thank you very much. --Virginia

I am considering creating an online index to this book. There would be at least 800 persons mentioned. I will wait for consent from the author, but I do not want to waste my time if there is already a good one out there.

If anyone knows of one, please e-mail me or post a URI here.

I have been searching for records of my grandfather Joseph Ruel (or Ruel Joseph) Wheeler for the past 25 years. He claimed to have been born 3 August 1893 in Wellington, Sumner, Kansas, to Ruel Joseph Wheeler and Marion Desmond. Very shortly after his birth, the family moved to Girard, Crawford, Kansas. From there they went to Oregon by the time he was 10. I have been very much unsuccessful in this endevour. Does anyone have any information about this family?

Hello,
If anyone has access to Indexes of the 1900, 1910 or 1920 Census for Kansas, I'd like a look up to see what county my ancestors were in. I thought they were in Harvey Co and ordered microfilm, but they weren't there. So maybe they're in Marion Co.

The surname is COVALT, and the head of house hold is STILLWELL.

Thank you very much. I live in CA.

Topic: Need help identifying town name & it's county, pleease
From: Peggy Mrazik rpmrazik@msn.com
Date: Saturday, October 13, 2001 10:32 PM

I sure hope someone can help me! I recently obtained a picture of my ancestor. The picture is likely about 100 years old and the only writing (which is difficult to read) on it I believe is in regards to who did the photography. As best as I can make it out it looks like
Dickey Donning
headquarters
Keoti, Kansas
Keoti - the first letter of this word could be R or maybe L.
Can anyone help me figure out the name of this town and it's county?
and of course if anyone has any information on a Dickey Donning photography business that would be most helpful as well!
Many Thanks,
Peggy

Topic: Sealey - Gaston - Osborne Co, KS
From: L.M. Okonek crfamok@webtv.net
Date: Saturday, October 06, 2001 11:42 AM

My gg grandfather, Francis M. Sealey, AKA George M. Tinker, married Mary A. Gaston in Waterloo, Black Hawk Co, IA, in 1866. According to the 1880 census, they were located in Victor, Osborne Co, Kansas. That census lists 5 children, 4 of which are listed as being born in Iowa, and one in Kansas. I'm trying to confirm that these children were born in Iowa: Nellie J. Sealey, Maud Sealey, Charles F. Sealey, Mary G. Sealey. Guy G. Sealey is listed as being born in Kansas. I would greatly appreciate information that could clarify where these children were born. I'm also trying to identify the location of this Sealey family in the 1870 census. No luck yet. For the benefit of two other Sealey researchers I have been in touch with, and myself, I am also trying to identify if Francis M. Sealey and George M. Tinker were the same person, as it seems to be indicated in Civil War pension records.
