Trying a longshot here. I am searching for my gg grandfather, Levi R. WARNER. He was born in Virginia abt 1842, the son of Oran WARNER & Elizabeth Virginia Davis. From 1861-1865 he served in the 10th WV Volunteer Infantry, Company A, with three of his brothers.
He married Sarah A. MARPLE in Braxton Co WV, Oct 19, 1865. They had 2 children, Charles Elsworth & Clara. Sarah died shortly after Clara was born in 1869 and the children lived with relatives in Lewis Co, WV.
In 1870, Levi was living with his brother on a farm in Lewis Co. After the 1870 census no other records of him have been found. There are two family stories. One was that he went out west and was never heard from again. The other was that he worked as a carpenter in Kansas and regularly sent home money for the support of his children until his death about 1878.
If anyone is interested in this person or has any info to share, I would be happy to hear from you. I have his Civil War discharge medal and a wedding day photo.

I'm trying to find the location of two towns that my great grandparents were born. Can someone help me? I don't know the exact spelling of either one so... here they are
1) Reynolds..Renaulds..Renalds
2) Reubens..Ruebens..
Has anyone heard of these towns? And do you know where the county seats were of these in the 1870's-1880's?
I would appreciate any help
Also looking for the Saron Lutheran Church Cemetery near Jamestown, KS. How do I get there? I know it is somewhere North of Jamestown.

There was a Reynolds in Kiowa Co. Post Office existed from Jan 1887 to Apr 1888
and Rubens in Jewell Co with Post Office from Jan 1871 - Oct 1900
Mankato is county seat of Jewell County. I don't know county seat for Kiowa Co.

I am searching ancestors of ROBERT GILLILAND OCHILTREE, died ca 1912, either in Had dam Kansas or Powshiek IA...It is my understanding he was in the medical field for many years.
His parents would have been James Ochiltree and Elinor Wilson from VA.
He would also have had a sister who was married to a James Edmondson, her name may have been Mary Elizabeth Wilson.

I am trying to locate a Jess Yonker. He was born December 1872 in Illinois. Sometime after the 1900 census he moved on to Kansas and married a Native American lady and the family said that they only heard one time from him but no one has the city. He had 3 living brothers and 1 living sister when he left. His parents were Joseph and Martha "Mattie" Montgomery Yonker. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi. This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but perhaps someone can help me. My ancestor, William N. Husted, was last seen alive in the Corry, Erie County, PA City directory for 1884-1885. He lived in Corry with his wife and adult children. By 1889, his wife is listed as his widow in the Corry City directory and she and most of the children lived there or nearby for the rest of their lives.
After years of digging, I found an announcement that appeared in the "Corry Herald" on 11 July 1895: "The friends of Wm. N. Husted have received information that he died at his new home in Kansas, yesterday. He was formerly a resident of the city, living on York St., and will be remembered as a book-keeper in the American Express Co., when Andrew Casey was agent, and was for a short time agent himself."
This presents lots of questions, of course, about what was going on in the family. Further, it's not clear if William died "yesterday" or if the "friends" only heard about it "yesterday". I'd dearly love to discover where and when he died and, if possible, where he is buried (he was not brought back and buried with the family). If anyone can make helpful suggestions regarding how I could proceed with this -- or better yet, can help -- I'd greatly appreciate it.

Between the end of the civil war and 1870, my great grandfather left Indiana to travel to Texas. Along the way, his pregnant wife gave birth to twin sons. All three died. Tom Drake then tore down his wagon and built a common casket for his wife and sons. They were buried "in a saddle between two hills on the Trail to Texas in Kansas." Tom then took his two remaining sons and traveled to Indian Territory where a child was born to him in 1871.
My grandfather, Joe Drake, went to Kansas when he was a young man trying to find his mother's grave. He sadly reported there were too many saddles between two hills.
My son was stationed in Fort Riley a few years ago and he said he believes a grave was found with a woman's and two infants' bodies in one coffin. This was during the building of a road. The bodies were reinterred in a local cemetery. He didn't know of this himself, but a woman in Fort Riley told him of it.
I don't know if this was my great grand-mother, Sarah Smith Drake, or not, but I would like to learn more.

I am interested in finding information about Ernest Ivory Vance, my great grandfather. I don't know much about him, but his children were Avis, Ivan Ernest, 1913 (my grandfather), and Robert. I believe Ernest Ivory lived in KS, but am not sure where. My grandfather married June Thompson 1919, daughter of Everett Thompson of Republic County, KS. My grandparents moved to Chase Co. NE. when my father, Ernest Ivan was about 3 years old (1945?) in order to start the family farm.
As for a place to start? Quinter, KS keeps coming to mind for some reason, but I'm not sure why.

My grandmother, Lutheria (Lutie) A. BICKFORD was adopted according to 1910 MN census. Place of birth is listed only as "Kansas", date of birth abt Sep., 1887. Adoptive parents were Luther A. BICKFORD and Anna L. (O'BRIEN)BICKFORD. They are in IA in 1880 census (no children) and MN in 1900 census (1 child "Lutheria".) I have no proof that they ever lived in Kansas but also no proof of were they were from 1880-1900. Would like to find county/location in KS where they lived during those years - and if at all possible would like to find birth family for Luthera. Haven't a clue where to start! I am looking for descendants of Walter Scott Sears and his uncle, Z.S.Hastings, both who lived in Kansas before 1900's. Walter was the third son of John Michael Sears and Charlotte A. Hastings. Charlotte died in 1875 after the birth of her last child, Lottie Sears. Charlotte is buried in Sun City, Barber County, Kansas as is her husband, John Michael Sears (died 1914). He was married a second time to Jennie Vanalstyne. Family lore has it that when J.M. died, Jennie left Kansas and went back to Ohio or New York to live with her family there.
Walter Scott was born about 1868 or 1869 in either Humboldt County or Jefferson County. (There is some confusion over the locality of "Brushy Point" where Walter's brother, George maintains all his siblings were born.) Walter was in Barber County in 1890 and probably married Bette Adams there. My grandfather, Ralph Raymond Sears (born 1895, died 1982) went with his father, George and elder brother, John Wheeler Sears, on the train from Guthrie, Oklahoma to Medicine Lodge, Barber County, Kansas to attend John Michael Sears funeral. He told me that that was the last time he ever saw his "Uncle Walt". He did not know where Walt was living at the time; only Kansas. Walter Scott Sears and Bette had two sons, five years younger than Ralph Sears. It is not known where Walter Scott Sears nor his wife, died nor where his sons families located. Z.S. Hastings family lived in Kansas where he was a was a member of the State Legislature and a Preacher; a very learned man. Z.S. was a younger brother of Charlotte. He and his wife had a large family. Two of the sons were Paul Pardee Hastings and Otho Ono Hastings. Names like that would be hard to miss.

I don't believe Oklahoma was ever part of Sumner County Kansas, but Braman, OK is only about 4 miles from the Kansas border and Sumner County. Perhaps your ancestors owned property in both Sumner County, Kansas and Braman, Oklahoma. Or, perhaps they lived in Sumner County, Kansas but did their shopping in Braman or attended church there.

If you search each census with the soundex and you find them in the soundex it will tell you which county they were in and then you can pull up the actual census with their information.

The Nowlin-Stone genealogy states Burwell Nowlin died in Kansas in 1872. The only clue where is that daughter Ellen, who m. Henry Morris, d. Parawan, KS in 1876 after having Annie and Charlie (who is noted as living at Athenia, OR)

My husbands great grandmas brother lived in Arma, Kansas around 1945. His name was Victor Bordin or Bourdin his wife name was Emma. His sister Mathilda Married Emile Castiaux. This daughter Rosalie married Victor Fleury also in Arma, Kansas. They had three sons. One passed away in 1999 his name was also Victor Fleury, He had 3 sons. We are trying to locate descendents of Gerrit Zwiers, Klaas Konjer and fam. Grieving or Grievink.
Gerrit Zwiers was born in 1858 and emigrated to the USA (Kansas) somewhere between 1875-1890. (see also message Paraveno???)
All we know about Grieving is that a daughter probably married Gerrit Zwiers.
Klaas Konjer, his wife Antje, his children Aaltje, Harm, Hendrikje, Hendrik and Lambertus arrived on Ellis Island october the 9th 1898 aboard the 'Statendam'.
Lambertus was POW during WWI in Germany.
All help appreciated.
