Yes, there is a Grinnell, Kansas. It is located in Logan County which is in
extreme Western Kansas.

There isn't a post office by that name listed in "Kansas Post Offices" by Baughman. There are only Silver Creek (Chase), Silverdale (Cowley), Silver Lake (Shawnee) and Silver Spring (Nemaha).

It's mentioned in a 1905 obit at http://www.rootsweb.com/~neplatte/vitals/vitals1905b.html but the only other reference to Silver Grove I find is in Campbell County, Kentucky. That doesn't mean it didn't exist in Kansas, just not in the sources I consulted.
I'd suggest the "Dead Towns" list at Kansas State Historical Society.

I am looking for the family of Andrew Elliott Foster. Two of his sons, William Sherman b 12 Apr 1866, and Joel b 1868 were born somewhere in Kansas. Their mother is Ellen P (maiden name unknown) I believe. Andrew has an older son, Archibald who was born in 1852 in Tennessee (different mom, I think). This family is on the 1870 census in Erie, McDonald, Missouri. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I am searching for a marriage record for James/Jas/Jim McCallan (also spelled McCallen or McAllen) (did not read or write so spelled many differnt ways) he married Maria Diamond somewhere in Kansas. They settled and lived their lives out in Burr Oak Township (doniphan co) but I can't find their marriage record anywhere. Maria was born in 1854 and died in 1894 they would have been married between 1866 and 1879 ... She may possibly have been married to a Thompson/T__homsen/T__homson first as she came to the marriage with 2 children that later in life used the surname Thompson. Can you please help me? I have paid many fees and got nothing in return, no counties will do the search for free and I have a tracheostomy tube and cannot visit the libraries very often due to constant coughing from all the dust mites, etc. Please help if you can and you can email me directly at tee@magiccablepc.com even if you are not sure or have incorrect info, anything would help me!

I am researching the Gilbert name, My Gilbert family lived in Lebanon(Smith co) Kansas, But I am trying to find a N.Ivel Gilbert that was a Methodist minister,mid 40's& 50"s of this century. As far as I know he preached in about all parts of KS. I did get a news paper clipping when he died years ago, but it has been misplaced. A beautiful article was written about the Golden Wedding of Alfred Dann and his wife Betsy Ann Mc Allister on May 1,1881. unfortunetly all I have is the name of the paper - The Tribune. The Kansas State Historical Society has microfilms available for interlibrary loan. The films include all the papers published in the state since 1861. Here is a listing, with microfilm number, of all papers with the word TRIBUNE in the title. There were no hits on "The Tribune" for a title. I have also deleted all the titles of papers not in the May 1881 time period. [There were 23 hits for 1881, that is microfilms of papers that had 1881 as part of the microfilm]. Your librarian can ILL the films for you, but you should review the Society's loan policy first. You can find a link to the loan policy from the newspaper search page. Note that this listing includes both the city and county of publication. If you have any idea where they lived, you should be able to find the paper.

There are 7 McCaffrey's in the 1920 Kansas census -
James, age 84 in Barton Co.
W.M., age 46 in Butler Co.
James C., age 45 in Geary Co.
John J., age 24 in Jackson Co.
Charles, age 36 in Leavenworth Co.
Mat, age 45 in Nemaha Co.
Richard J., age 46 in Nemaha Co.
There are 48 William McCaffrey's indexed in the 1920 Census, however none of them are the right age and born in Iowa.
Have you tried writing the Social Security administration for their information? It could give you a clue as to place of death.

This is my brick wall - CRAUGHEN was not a common name in 1880s, yet I have not found any Craughen connection to my grandmother, Mary Josephine CRAUGHEN, She was born 31 May 1881 in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas and died 25 Jan 1951 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. She married my grandfather, Thomas Patrick RILEY, 26 Feb 1906 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas.
Thomas Patrick RILEY was born 14 Oct 1873 in California (per the 1920 Arkansas Census) and died 09 May 1953 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas.
My father's name was William Edward RILEY, b. 12 May 1916 d. 24 Oct 1967 both in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. He and my mother, Mildred Viola SILMON, (b, 22 Aug 1918 Grubbs, Jackson County, Arkansas and d. 07 Jun 1988 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas) were married 30 Apr 1938 in Fort Smith, AR. William Edward RILEY was in the Navy in WWII (Squadron 466) and he is buried in the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
One of his brothers was George Matthew RILEY b. 04 Sep 1911 d. 03 Jun 1968 in the VA Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. They had 5 additional siblings, Margaret "Pete" RILEY HOMAN, Susan RILEY STRODE KELLY, Thomas RILEY Jr., John RILEY (known as Bud) and Paul RILEY. We have lost all contact with Uncle George "Toad" RILEYÕs son, George Mack RILEY. We believe he is still in Kansas. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Barbara King

I'm looking for information on Charles P. Ingraham Jr. and his wife Cornelia
Bain. I have reason to believe that sometime after about 1872 that the family
left McDonough County, Il. and head West, as my Great Grandfather Clarence
Ingraham could still remember the family living in Il. at the age of 6, he was
born in Dec. 1866, so this would put the year to be 1872. His older sister
Margaret, (Maggie) gave birth to a son Fredrick M. Ingraham in 1875, Fred was
told that at the time they were living near Ft. Scott, Ks. The family is next
found in Dade County, Mo. were Maggie married in July of 1883 to a George Palmer
who was not her son Fred's father some time after the birth of their son in 1884
they moved to Kingsman, Ks. Charles and Cornelia along with their son Clarence
stayed in Dade County, Mo. and are bured there together in the Hickory Grove
Cemetery, Arcola, Mo. We don't have any information on the other children of the
family except Charles Edward, I located him and his sons in the Jasper County,
Mo. 1900 Census.
In the 1870 for McDonough County, Il. Census the family appears as Charles age
41, Cornelia age 38, Willis age 15, Margaret age 13, Mary E, age 8, Edward age
4, and Clarence age 2. Any information would be very helpful, Taleah

I am trying to find Matthew M. Kincannon's grave. He died in February of 1857. Family records indicate he died "somewhere in Kansas." Considering the period in history, his sudden immigration (with family) from the family home in southwestern Tennessee, and his relatively young age at the time of death. . . I speculate he may have been a casualty in bleeding Kansas. Regardless, I need some assistance in locating where he died, how he died, and where he's buried.

I am looking for Bernice J. Henry. She has an older brother named Walter Guy and I believe her father was Guy Walter or Walter Guy Henry. The brother was born in MO but Bernice was born someplace in Kansas. I have no idea where though. She was born January 14, 1889. Can anyone help me? Is there a census or something that can be searched? I am no where near Kansas so any help at all is very greatly appreciated!!!

My great grandfather was married to a Mary Turner..I think they got married in 1868. I don't know anything about her family and have no idea where they were from. They lived in Imes for quite awhile before they moved to Ottawa. Any information on the Turner family would be greatly appreciated.
