You might want to ILL micro films for the 1865 and 1875 All Person Indices for the 1865 and 1875 State of Kansas Censuses.

They are available from the Kansas State Historical Society.

Topic: Butcher, George and Fred
From: Janie Russell janierus8@cs.com
Date: Sunday, June 09, 2002 07:27 PM

Hi, I'm trying to track my husbands Great Grandfather, George Butcher. The only information I have on him is from the census record saying that he was born in New Jersey, but his son Fred Butcher was born in Kansas. Fred was born circa 1885. In my research, on every line, I have found that the families (Parents, Children, and Grandparents) all migrated together. I'm hoping that someone is searching in Kansas for this Butcher line and may be missing a George Butcher. George lived with his son, Fred Butcher and wife, Martha Ailey Butcher, and died in Stroud, Oklahoma.

I would appreciate any tidbit on any Butchers, that I can check out.

Appreciate your time!
Janie Russell

Dear List,

I am trying to locate information concerning my great-great grandfather James Polk Todd. I do not know where he might of lived in Kansas, just that his oldest daughter was born here as stated in the 1900 census for Caldwell County, North Carolina. Can't find a marriage record in NC so I think he married possibly in Kansas also. James was born 1862 and married sometime around 1882-83 as his oldest was born in 1884. His first wife dies around 1890 after he returns to NC. Any information would be appreciated even just a county to look into.

Thanks,
Gwendolyn Prater Dalseg

Topic: Meixell/Mikesell, etc.
From: Estella Johnson ekjohnson@att.net
Date: Thursday, May 02, 2002 07:33 AM Can anyone help by telling me which counties I should search for this surname -- Meixell, which has various spellings? The first name is James Patterson, or J P or J Paterson, etc. This surname is difficult to search in indexes, even using wild cards and, especially, using soundex.

A PA Com Bio says: Jacob [Hafer] deceased ...left a family all of whom reside in Michigan except a daughter, who married Paterson Meixell, son of Martin Meixell and lives in Kansas.

I believe the daughter's name to be Mary Frances.

I am looking for census and cemetery records as well as any family connections.

Topic: Joseph Wolf Need the date of death.
From: Jamie Ritchie ritchie1953@hotmail.com
Date: Thursday, April 25, 2002 06:01 PM

I need the date of death. That why I calling out death index in Ks. He had land in Washington Co.Washington,Kansas. Sometime the funeral homes don't keep all records. I done that in Okla. and they told me that. The Health Dept in Okla had it and not the book or films, funeral homes. But that person was buried there. So where do you go from there if nothing in the lib.or anywhere but Heath Dept. has it. I was told the law of Kansas only does the date of death but if you don't have it and no one in the town help you find the death index dates then what next. Good question the the Law of Kansas. What if the Health does have it and only have the date of birth and Land Deed,Census. Pension, other records then what. Jamie

Topic: Looking for Finnie Davis (male)
From: Debby Mapp suzieq72955@msn.com
Date: Tuesday, April 16, 2002 08:35 AM

I am looking for a great-great-uncle named Finnie Davis. He was born in Boone County, Missouri sometime between 1875-1890. He was the son of Isaac Robards Davis (b. 9-12-1853) and Joanna Allspach (b. June 1, 1858) I know he was in Kansas at the time of the death of his father, which was in June 1914. I don't know if he ever married, had children, where in Kansas he was located, or even,if he's buried in Kansas....this is really a "cold" search...all references made to him acknowledge his name as "Finnie"; I don't know if this is an "aka" or not. His siblings names were Robert Ort (my grandfather); Lavenia "Beanie"; Rueben, Cora/Clara, Lillie, Laura, Roy Lee, Bessie, Rokie, and possibly, Richard (may be "Rokie")

If anyone can shed any light on this man for me, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.
