I have this information in a family history biographical sketch of our BEARD ancestor: John Henry Beard
"When 14 years of age he left home and made his way to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he engaged with a Government train, as teamster, on a trip to Salt Lake City."
Where would I find information on this? What county is Fort Leavenworth in?

I am seeking info on my grandmother FLORENCE LATHROP. I have very little info on her. She was born in 1888 in Kansas. That is all the info I have to go on. She moved to Blandford,Ma. sometime in the early 1900's as she married a man with the surname Maddox, and had two daughters with him by 1909--the daughters were Clara and Elsie(Elsye)Maddox. Florence married Jesse HARRINGTON sometime before 1911 and moved to NY. I believe they may have lived in Keeseville, N.Y when they first married but moved to Syracuse by 1912 where they had a daughter named Bessie. Florence had a brother named CLAYTON LATHROP, and he settled in Syracuse, NY also. Florence had 6 children: Clara and Elsie Maddox, Bessie,Charles, Roberta,Herbert HARRINGTON. I am researching a Donald MacDonald and family who left Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1874 and went to Kansas. He arrived in Prince Edward Island in 1829 on the Mary Kennedy from the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
Does anyone have any information on MacDonalds who immigrated to Kansas about this time?

Am researching my ggggrandfather, Dr. Simeon Bishop Bell. I know he married twice, but am looking for the names and spouses of his siblings and children. His father was Jabesh Bell. He was a doctor during the Border Wars, and into the Civil War, serving in the 13th KSM. He received a concussion from Quantrill and his raiders, requiring him to return back to NJ for a steel implant in his head. His firs wife, Eleanor Taylor, bore him 10 children. I only know of the names of a few. Since I descend from his first wife, that is my primary focus.

I have an printout from the LDS history center. It is a census record for John and Malinda Hook. It is from Baker, Crawford, Kansas in the yr 1880. Now I have looked at the maps and I cannot reconcile how the town of Baker could mistakenly be assigned to Crawford co. Since the two counties are so far apart I fail to see how changing lines would move this town from one county to the other. Can anyone give me some insight into this?

In Crawford County, Kansas, BAKER is a TOWNSHIP rather than a town. The town of
Baker is in Brown County. Townships are just another division of the county.
Lots of confusing things are done when naming areas - Kansas has a city of
Wichita but it is not even close to Wichita County; we have a town of Ottawa but
it is no where close to Ottawa County.
Confusing.

This family (wife: Elizabeth Otis and children: Mabel P. Harry, and Clarence) moved from Waseca, MN in 1888. Attilla M. is a homeopathic physician. Beyond this All I know is that Mabel and husband were wheat farming in 1910-1915. 1900 census index might turn them up.

Could you see if you could find an Adison L.R.(probably Lee Roy)Bolen in the 1870 Kansas censuses, sorry I don't have a county I've only recently started to try and find my great-grandfather who is listed in the 1900 census as being born in 1863 Kansas. I was always told that his name was Arthur Lee Roy, but now have definite proof that his name was Adison L.R. Bolen, a land patent that matches tax book entries. Thanks for any help, advise etc. that you may provide.

Note that this index is a Head of Household index only. You will have to check each listing to find Adison L.R. Bolen with his family.
If you do not have access to the Federal Census films, you could also look in the State of Kansas Census films for 1865 and 1875. The Kansas State Historical Society has the state census films available for interlibrary loan. They also have ALL PERSON INDEXES available for interlibrary loan for the 1865 and 1875 censuses.

I am researching the family of my birth father, John Oscar Brady. John had a sister, named either Daisy or Orla, who married a William Fuller and they resided in what I am told was a town called Meridian, Kansas. Is anyone aware of this town/area? What county was it in? John also had a brother named James Brady who was allegedly killed in Kansas in the late 1930s does this sound familiar to anyone?

There is a Meridian Township in McPherson County and a town of Meriden in Jefferson County. I will take a look for these folks in the published marriage and tombstone indexes for Jefferson County.

mother. It is dated March 11, 1885 and has as an address Larimore KS. I can't
find out anything on this town. Was it a town at one time? If so, which County
was it in? My grandfather's name was John Q. Adams, and his mother was Mary C.
Adams (Turner).

According to "Kansas Post Offices" by Robert W. Baughman, Larimore was located in Franklin County. The Post Office existed from 01 Aug 1881 to 23 May 1887, when the name was changed to Imes. Imes post office was discontinued in 1917. The first postmaster at Larimore and Imes was Harmon Imes.

Try this site for obituaries. They have scrapbooks of obituary clippings from The Wichita Eagle and Beacon papers. They will abstract the information for $3.00 per name. A search at this site produced 29 hits on the surname Younkin.
