Trying to locate Daniel and Susan Marks. Death records of his father say they were present at the probate, and were from Topeka. Family search says they were married in Henry Missouri. He was the brother of my great, great grandfather. I am trying to find out his mother's name. He was born and raised in Adams Co. Pa., and I believe he got to Kansas during or after the Civil War. Daniel was born around 1839. Any help would be appreciated.

I am seeking information on descendents of Herman A. Richardson, born in Franklin County, Kansas in 1906, who married Ella ?, date, ?.
Herman A. and Ella Richardson are noted as living in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1930 census, Herman was 24 years of age and Ella was 16 years of age. I believe they moved back to Kansas, sometime after.
Herman A. Richardson is the son of Silas H. Richardson and Isadora (Walburn) Richardson, the Silas Richardsons lived at Pomona, Kansas.

I am helping my 80 year old uncle who wants to find out about his dad, Cyrus H. Owens. Ray's mom separated from Cyrus when Ray was so young he can't remember ever seeing him. The ONLY info is that on Ray's birth (in 1922) certificate it listed Cyrus Owens as being born in 1900, occupation - Kansas Farmer. Cyrus and Oma married in Caddo County Ok. 21 oct. 1922
Ray's mom would never give him any info about his dad. Any clue who the family of this Cyrus might be? Or any group of Owens family in KS? Thanks, Chuck

Seeking information: My father Dale Glen Graham b. 1936, d. in Arkansas City June/1975. I have a copy of his d. certificate, it shows his father as George Gerald Graham, mother as Goldie Locke/Graham. Received a copy of George's d. certificate, it shows his father to be John Graham, mother: Cora Allen/Graham. My problem is I can't find any information on John & Cora Graham. Georges' d. certificate shows he was born in 1898 in Joplin, MO (Jasper Co.). I know these Graham's migrated to Kansas but don't know where. Does anyone have access to 1900 or 1910 census in Kansas that they would be willing to share? I Don't know if John & Cora had any other children. I checked on death index for a John Graham b. 3/3/1873 SS issued in MO, d. 8/1962 in Kansas. Death index doesn't show what county in Kansas. . . so how am I to know if I have the right John Graham? I know my father grew up around Joplin, MO and later Winfield, Arkansas, Wichita areas in Kansas. George & Goldie had the following children: Roy, Deloris, Dale, Danny & Irene. Good afternoon to you, I have a Mary Goldie Graham born August 25 1900 Mountain Grove, Wright County, Missouri. that married my Paul Earnest Dennis, Sr. They were married July 1 1919 Shawnee County, Kansas. Her fathers name was William Herbert Graham, mother Pernetta Jane McGraw. This county was real close to where your Graham was born and about the same time. I am looking for possible descendants of James Frail and Rosella Porter who lived in Clay Co.. Rosella apparently died and James stayed there with 3 children, James, Stephen and Evalyn. She can remember her Father (Bert Edwin Lowe) telling when he was four he went down to the front gate to waite for his father to come home from work like he always did, but his father never came home. The State of Kansas did not start keeping death certificates until 1911. Prior to this, it was up to each county clerk to keep the death records. Very few clerks keep death records. So the chances of finding a death certificate are close to zero.
The only piratical way to find anything on his death would be to look through all the county cemetery indices. These are usually published by the local county genealogy societies. Some indices are are on line at the USGenWeb county pages.
Here is a link to a listing of cemetery indices kept by one(?) of the county societies. I do not know if they have copies of all these or just a listing......

Another way to narrow down the search is to see if you can find him in the 1895 State of Kansas Census (This in not a Federal Census). Your message title stated "death and marriage", but your query did not mention anything about a marriage certificate. Again, there records are kept at the county level. Some are on line and some are published, but you really need to narrow down your search. Have you looked for him in the 1880 Federal Census yet????? You might start there and try to work forward.

I am in the need for some help. My great grandfather at one time lived in Kansas, four of his children were born there. I do not have any idea of what county. I was needing to know if there is anyone out there, that is also looking for Stephen Henry Green from Pennsylvania. He married a Polly Fields date unknown, state unknown. I am at a brick wall with this side of the family. Stephen's birth is 11 July 1840, Polly's is 3 Dec 1855 in Vermont. They moved and settled in Dewey County, Oklahoma. They are both buried at ElmGrove Cemetery. Stephen died 3 April 1933 in Seiling, Oklahoma, Polly died 4 Aug 1941 in Seiling, Oklahoma. I am trying to find some more information on my grand parents on my mother's side. My grand father Christopher Melvin Austin was born in a sod house somewhere in western Kansas Mar. 10 1883. His parents were John Emery Austin and Virginia Darr Austin. He had 6 0r 7 brothers and one sister.
I assume the family were homesteaders, but I am not sure. So far I have had no luck in finding anything about the family using every combination of names dates etc. I can think of. Am seeking information as to the birthplace of John Dubbs. John was the son of John A (Allan) Dubbs and Lizzie (Kerns) Dubbs. Allan and Lizzie were married in September 1880 in Bethlehem (PA). I have a copy of an article about the wedding that says that they are going to settle "out west."
The next look I have at Allan and Lizzie is the 1900 census when they are living in LaSalle County, Illinois. Living with them is son John (age 19); the census sheet also says that they have two children, both of whom are still living. John is listed as having been born in Kansas; the SSDI lists a person who appears to be him with a birth date of July 1881. I am speculating that he may have been born in Ness County because the 1880 Ness census lists a number of Dubbs names who were born in PA. I'm guessing that the other child referred to in the 1900 census (name unknown) could possibly be a daughter born in KS in 1882 or 1883. If my guess is correct then she might have been married in KS between 1898 and 1900.
Any info establishing where John and the unknown other child of Allan and Lizzie were born is appreciated. Lizzie was the sister of my gg-grandmother Ellen Jane Kerns, born in Montgomery County (PA) in 1843.

I am search for a death record of my great-great uncle, Felix Landor, who may have died in a "pesthouse" in Topeka, Kansas in the early 1900s. He was a minister ordained in the 1870s in New Orleans, Louisiana, but came to Kansas City, Kansas in 1891 under the name of Philip Landor. He eventually died of smallpox in Topeka.
Since I know very little about "Pesthouses", I am unable to locate a death record for him or his daughter Rosette. Can anyone tell me where I can find information on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there doesn't appear to be a Webster Springs, Kansas, in any of the early Kansas towns sources I've checked, including "Kansas Post Offices" by Robert W. Baughman, and the online list of defunct KS towns at http://www.kshs.org/genealogists/places/deadtowns.htm.
Have you tried searching the 1920 census for the Ausmus family? There is a Bessie Ausmus, about the right age, in Kiowa County, KS in 1930 with grandparents Richard & Nola Burnett. Does that sound like the right person?

We were told that she ñremarried and moved awayî among other things. People who told us that said they couldnÍt remember to whom she remarried and where they moved. This would be vital information to tracing her final years. This is why IÍm posting this message on as many ñunknown countyî queries as I can find. I searched for her before there were computers and the Internet. My grandfather searched (1915-1920) and couldnÍt find her. Here is the basic factual information that I have for her. Basic facts on my great grandmother: Born: Rebecca Fannin, about 1850, (Va./WV), d/o Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin. Married: 8 August 1868, Wayne, West Virginia, Reece Carl Workman. Their son, my grandfather, Benjamin Freeland Workman, b. Wayne County, WV 2 April 1870. My grandfather was taken from Rebecca by Reece before 1874, never to see each other again. Reece married his cousin, Margaret Workman, in Mercer County, WV 2 February 1874. Rebecca was granted divorce from Reece and custody of their child in Wayne, WV in March 1877. This (1877) is the last known (to me) record of Rebecca (Fannin) Workman. Family stories say Rebecca remarried and moved away, but they canÍt remember to whom and where. After my grandfather married, Reece, Margaret, and the other children moved to Wright County, Minnesota about 1895. Reece and sons established farms around Maple Lake and Annandale. After Margaret died, he returned and married again living near Crumpler, McDowell, West Virginia. He died in a car wreck in McDowell County in 1928. I am hoping to locate a descendant of her second marriage.

According to the family's decendants this should be in or near Cherokee, Indian Territory at that time. I have found a Sarah J. (Spencer)Headley buried in Bartlesville OK, but I have been unable to find her husband, daughter, or son-in-law. The other names I am looking for are;
Llewellyn (Luellin,L.D., Lewellyn, ect.)Headley, b 5 Dec 1893 (according to military records)Franklin Co. Ohio, d. 29 Feb 1899 (according to his grandsonson, Albert).
Mary A.(Headley)Burton, b. abt 1873 (estimated from census records)d. abt 1894 (estimate from her son, Albert). According of family history Mary would have died in late Summer or early Fall (during the growing season).
Unknown first name Burton (Mary's husband)Native American Indian, b. Tennesse, d. abt 1894 at the same time as Mary.

It could be Alma, Kansas in Wabaunsee County. I've never heard of Alva, Ks in Cloud County and my mother was raised in Cloud County and we don't find it on the new Kansas maps or in the latest Atlas.

In 1918 my Daddy John Andrew Majesky entered the army from El Dorado, Kansas. I am unable to locate any other record to trace his parents. All I know is I am named for my Granma
"Marianne" or "Marianna" and my Granpaws name was Tom or Thomas. Since they were of Polish ethenticity the last name was probably changed,somewhat. Where is El Dorado,(what county}? Was this a central area for enlistment in the Army in 1918? Was there a Polish community then and where was it? I am having trouble locating them in 1900 and 1910 census records. The area of his birth was an Indian territory and has no birth records. Any assistance is appreciated.

I am looking for info on the cress family. Settled in Horton Kansas between 1876 and 1901. John Henderson Cress (my gg grandpa) and Louisa Minerva (Morelock) Cress left Lee County Virginia between 1876 and 1901 and settled in or around Horton Kansas. They had nine kids and one of them was my great grandpa Robert Green Cress. Robert Cress married Blanch Griggs in 1901 in Horton. Robert and Blanch had nine kids and eventually moved to Laclede County Missouri. One of the nine kids was Jasper Clinton Cress my grandpa. From the 1920 Census of Washington State, UNKN Steele is listed as being born in Kansas by his two sons. The family structure is as follows:
? Steele b. circa 1870-1880 Kansas
Ruth (nee?)Steele b. circa 1870-1880 Iowa
Gilbert V. Steele b. 1898 Oregon
Glen H. Steele b. 1899 Oregon
? Steele must have died soon after his sons were born as Ruth ? Steele married William E. Wright b. 1879 Kansas and the boys are listed as stepsons.

You might try Neosho County Kansas. Their was an Osage Mission their. I don't know much about it. It was started by a Catholic Priest in order to bring the Catholic religion to the Indians of that area. Many settlers came West to the Osage Mission. Good Luck in your search.

There is a Mission, Kansas in Johnson County, Kansas. The post office address is probably Shawnee Mission, Kansas, but there is in actuality no Shawnee Mission, Kansas, that is only for postal service information. However, there was and still is Mission, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City.

My father grew up in the Kansas City/Osawatomie area of Kansas. His father moved from that area in about 1924 and has not been located since. Harvey Prouty (my Grandfather) owned a share of a wheat farm in Kansas I think. His Brothers name was Cary Prouty. I'd like as much information on this part of the Prouty family as possible.

Last known, Elizabeth Staudt/Gagen was in Helena,Lewis & Clark co, Montana in 1923.She was married at that time to a Mr. Gagen first name unknown. The Diary of Mary Melissa [SPARKS] CLARKE on CD Disk [200+ pages]. This book was originally compiled in April 1980, by Myra Del [HODSON] MANLEY. Myra found old diaries of her great grandmother, Mary Clarke, which were transferred from 'Olde Farmer's Almanacs' into this book. It starts in July 1879, and runs up to 1897 -- almost 20 years of every day activities from the life of one who lived it. Mary begins her stories in central Iowa, at 16 years of age, and then she follows their trip by 'covered wagon' across Missouri and Kansas, to their new home near St John [Stafford County] KS. Mary marries Sam Clarke there, in 1881, and the stories continue to tell of their life and move to near Cherokee [Alfalfa County] OK. Over 500 names are given by Mary in the daily accounts of those from Sigourney IA to Aline OK. Many births, deaths, marriages, and other daily needs are written in her own handwriting. This would be a great book for anyone researching these several areas of the country. Or, for anyone who desires a 'first hand' account of pioneer life on the prairie.
