A great grand-uncle, Phinehas Snyder, was born July 8, 1829 in Sullivan Co., NY and died Mar. 5, 1917 in Ness City, Ness County, Kansas, according to the Snyder Family bible. He was the third of ten children, only 4 of whom grew to adulthood, born to John H. and Anna Maria Snyder of Ulster County, New York. He was the only one ever to venture west or south of the northeastern U.S. and we don't know what prompted him to do so, unless it was the search for free land.

It is not known when or if he married, but one researcher of this family says he had a daughter, Jennie. The only evidence so far found outside family lore is his baptism on Oct. 31, 1829 in the Bloomingdale Dutch Reformed Church, Bloomington, Ulster Co., NY.

The last census in which he was found was in 1840 as one of two males, from 10-15, living with John Snyder in Fallsburgh, Sullivan Co., NY. In 1850 he was no longer living with his family, but didn't find him anywhere else, either. Hope someone can suggest my next step. Mary
