I have a copy of a letter written by my great grandfather, JOHN JAYMES, written on 2/5/1882 from his home in ALIDA, KS. He mentions a large schoolhouse where he attended a religious gathering and "talked for 1 1/2 hours," at the end of which "people came up to me and wanted me to preach for them at least onst (sic) a week." John came from Germany in 1851 with his parents, JOHN & MARGARET JAYMES, who settled in the PA area. John then went to Kansas and disappeared. He and MARY JANE UNKNOWN had 7 children: Anna May (my grandmother), Mattie (ROEDIGER), Emma (BOTTEMLY), Alice (DOLSTROM), Myrtle, Harry, and Jacob. In his letter, John also speaks of another son, John, who returned east. Anyone familiar with this family?
