My great-grandparents Henry and Jenny (STARR) LARRABEE went from Illinois to Haskell CO KS in 1887. Unfortunately Henry died of typhoid near Example KS in 1888 leaving Jenny to return to Illinois with Henry's body and their infant daughter. I would be interested to hear from anyone familiar with Haskell CO history who could give me an idea what my great-grandparents' life in Kansas was probably like. I assume they were homesteading---is that likely? Would they have lived in a soddy (dugout) or a cabin? Was there much danger from Indians? Would Jenny have returned home by railway or wagon? I do not expect ever to find records of their time in Kansas but would like just to get an idea of what may have happened to them there. Please contact direct. Thanks, Nora Tocus
