I am looking for information on the Emanuel Kirby family. He was
supposedly an inn owner who committed murder and suicide sometime about
1 August 1901. He killed his wife and possibly a lover of hers. He had
a son from his first wife who was away at college at the time. From the
article in his former hometown in Ohio, it said that Emanuel "was the
owner of 5,000 acres of land near Dodge City. The recent hot spell and
drought had spoiled his crops and killed nearly all of his stock. Kirby
had suffered a sun stroke a short time ago, and this together with his
losses it is believed deranged his mind and caused him to commit the
rash act." Any help locating info on this incident or the whereabouts
of the son would be greatly appreciated.
