TEAGUE posted by Denise Startz on Sunday, January 31, 1999

I am looking for marriage ceritifcate/confirmation for John William Hannaford and Ethel Mae Majors Teague, 8-October-1930, Seneca, Kansas. Both were residing in Brownville, Nemaha Co., NE. but no marriage certificate found. A relative mentioned Seneca, KS. Was surprised at the coincidence of the counties' name. Also, curious if you might know of reason why they might have traveled across state lines to get married. My mother thought that this was fairly common in Nebraska because of waiting time or something? Will be happy to send to appropriate sources if you can provide information on where, etc. Thanks so much!

RADFORD posted by Gary R. Entz on Sunday, January 31, 1999

I am in the final stages of a dissertation that examines the English Workingmen's Cooperative Colony (Llewellyn Castle) in Nemaha County. While I have information to share on a number of the settlers, I am still looking for specific information on one in particular. John Radford settled on the colony lands near Wetmore in 1874. He went on to open a jewelry store in Wetmore in the late 1870s. After his wife, Maria (Slark) Radford died in the early 1880s he closed his business and became an itnerant speaker for the Union Labor Party in northeastern Kansas. He settled in the nearby town of Horton in the early 1890s, where one of his sons died. After this point, about 1893, I've lost track of him. One of his daughters remained in Wetmore and married into the Royan family. If anyone knows what became of John Radford or when and where he died it would be most helpful. In exhange I can share information I've collected about several familes who settled at Llewellyn Castle. These include the familes of Charles McCarthy, John Fuller, John Stowell, and Edward Grainger Smith. I also have a bit of information on a few other families as well as detailed information about the colony itself and its London origins. Thank you,
