memories of having a father in the military, which enabled them to travel and
live in many locations. He was proud to serve his country and completed his
20-year career on April 30, 1972. They moved to Hays, Kansas where he
operated Walt's Appliance Repair until 1990 when they moved to Denver, Colorado.

Oklahoma, with a twin sister Juanita who preceded her in death in 1983. She was
one of 11 children of Fred and Pearl (Slater) Anson. All of her siblings
preceded her in death. She worked for her room and board while attending
high school in Ponca City, Oklahoma and later married Lewis "Lew" Bowman on May
20, 1933, whom she had met while he was working for her father. Lew saw Winona
while she was playing the piano at the Anson farm and told his brother, "That's
the girl I'm going to marry."... and he did. They moved to Kansas in 1935
where they lived in a garage and other housing...none were modern. She always
had cows to milk, bread to bake, and animals to take care of. Lew enlisted in
the Marines in 1943; and Winona, Bill, and Don moved back to Oklahoma to be with
family till the war ended. While there, she helped support the family by working
at Safeway. At war's end, they moved back to Kansas where her last child,
Paul was born. Don was shot in 1946, and her life was greatly changed as she
then had a newborn son and a paraplegic to care for. Her son, Bill was a great
help. Winona and family moved to the Codell area in 1948 where she
enjoyed her clubs and cards. She was a past member of the Sunflower Sisters and
the Codell Mission Circle. She spent her days working in the oil production and
service business, and taking care of neighbors and her grandchildren, whom she
dearly loved. She is survived by her sons William F. "Bill" and wife Marlene of
