Visit this link to the Kansas State Historical Society. They have microfilms of newspapers available for interlibrary loan. Suggest you just search on "Doniphan" County from "1899" to "1899". This way you will see all the newspapers films available, a Wathena paper being one of them. I am not sure where he would be buried, but expect it to be a local cemetery. You may find something in the newspaper. I am also not sure if the county sheriff or city police would have jurisdiction. I don't know enough about the history of Wathena. Start with the newspapers and see what you can find.
