These books contain extracts of Anderson county newspapers for the specified years. The information contained in the books is extensive and includes birth notices, obituaries, local, national and world news, and general interest stories concerning people and places in Anderson county. All volumes are indexed. As of June 1, 2000 only Volume 4 is available for purchase; please contact the Anderson County Historical Society for further information.
ANDERSON COUNTY KANSAS CEMETERY BOOK, 1854-1995 & 1995, 1996, 1997,
1998, and 1999 Supplements - By Dorothy K. Lickteig, self-published. The
original volume (1854-1995) contains an exhaustive record of all known
cemeteries in Anderson county. Included is information from tombstones,
church records, funeral records, and published obituaries. The
supplements, one published for each succeeding year after the first book
was published, include information on persons deceased since original
publication and corrects some errors in the first volume. The books are
not indexed, but entries are generally alphabetical within cemetery. For
a list of included cemeteries, click here. The original volume is
currently out of print, but some or all of the supplements for 1995,
1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 may be available.
ANDERSON COUNTY
MARRIAGES 1856-1995 - Published by the Anderson County Genealogical
Society. The book contains a comprehensive index of approximately 12,000
marriages performed in Anderson county between 1857 and 1995, sorted
both by bride's name and by groom's name, and includes date of marriage,
book, and page number. It is available for purchase from the ACGS.
THE
HISTORY OF ANDERSON COUNTY, KANSAS, FROM ITS FIRST SETTLEMENT TO THE
FOURTH OF JULY, 1876 - By W.A. Johnson, published by Kauffman &
Iler, Garnett Plaindealer, 1877. An extensive history of the first 25
years of Anderson county history, containing stories of early
settlement, the Troubles, Civil War soldiers, the founding of Garnett,
Greeley, and other Anderson county towns, biographies of prominent
citizens, businesses and societies, church histories, etc. An every name
index is available online.
HISTORY OF ANDERSON COUNTY KANSAS - By
Harry Johnson, published by the Garnett Review Co., 1936 (indexed); has
extensive extracted newspaper articles, a history of the county, WWI
rosters, etc.

Anderson county information includes the Michael and Lankard families of
Westphalia, KS. The book contains information on John Henry Michael, son
of John Michael and Rebecca Wise. Rebecca later married Daniel Lankard
and they moved to Westphalia with her young son. The book contains,
among other things, "a letter in John Michael's own handwriting while in
the Civil War,.. a Letter of Condolence to his widow, of whom the
Captain never realized he was married let alone had a son [Therefore the
Military Roles list him as "single"],...the actual Military papers from
D. C. and the guardianship papers in Jefferson Co. PA. Courthouse for
John Henry Michael, a photo of him with... Rebecca (Michael) and Oliver
J. Shaffer & family.. [and] a Family Reunion photo of the Daniel E.
Lankard family taken in April 1903 at the Sam Lankard place near
Westphalia, Kansas."

PICTORIAL HISTORY AND FOLKLORE OF ANDERSON COUNTY, KANSAS FROM
EARLIEST TIMES TO W.W.II - By Ed Fink, published by R.L. Stevens,
Garnett, KS, circa 1990. One of the most unusual and entertaining
history books I have ever seen, it consists of a collection of Mr.
Fink's ink cartoons which illustrate both well-known and more obscure
incidents in the early history of the county. This book is still in
print as of September 1998
